Shower Filters
You can filter your shower and bath water, too
You’ll know it’s time to change your shower filter when your water starts to smell. If you don’t know your water smells you should try out a shower filter. Many people’s problems with dry skin and allergies arise from the fact that there are chlorine and minerals in their water. If you bathe, you may be sitting in a tub full of micro-impurities.
If you do not have whole home water filtration or if you only have a single unit water filtration for your drinking water, you might want to consider the benefits of a shower filter. A shower water filter fits on your shower head and can remove up to 95% of the chlorine in your water.
This type of filter can also be fitted over your taps. These are easy to install; they screw into the showerhead or even replace your showerhead altogether. The water flows through the filter unit and still gives you a shower with the same water pressure you would expect from a regular shower. Some more advanced filtering units are designed to reduce lime scale buildup and even mold, bacteria and other microorganisms.
When you get used to the smell and feel of filtered shower water, you will notice the smell of unfiltered water; you will know it’s time to change your filter and you will appreciate the effect of your shower filter. Adding a shower filter is another small step in making your home a safer, healthier place for yourself and your family. A shower filter will cost about the same as a portable filtration unit – in the range of $35 to $50.
You should replace your filter more than once per year for maximum cleansing. If the filter gets clogged it may actually add contaminants to your water.
Did you know?
Every year, there are several deaths reported due to chlorine asphyxiation in the shower. In a hot shower, the chlorine becomes a gas, and if the shower goes on long enough, this gas can become concentrated and lethal. The potential for concentration depends on the intensity of chlorination by the local water provider. The elderly and small children are especially susceptible to this.
