Portable Potables

When you’re mobile, filtering your water might be a bigger issue than it is when you are at home. There are many good reasons for purchasing water filtration while you are traveling or boating:

  • You may be RVing to areas or countries where the water is of questionable quality. In Mexico and other countries, the water is prone to be contaminated.
  • If you ensure that your water tastes good, kids will drink more. If local water has a strange or funny taste, they may shy away from it and put themselves in danger of dehydration.
  • If you’re out on the water, it can actually be much hotter than anywhere else and you will need to keep your fluids up. The water you are boating on is not likely to be drinkable. A filtration unit will encourage you and others to drink more.

These are just a few important reasons you might be looking at “mobile water filtration.” The most obvious choice of water filtration might seem to be a pitcher-style water filter system that you can fill with water and filter for drinking. However, these have some drawbacks: the water is slow to filter; it can take up precious fridge space; it does not filter water for showers and other uses.

If any or all of these items is an issue for you, you will want to look into larger systems.
A whole water system will purify all the water you use for your boat, yacht or RV. In other cases, you may have a built in refrigerator water filter or an under the sink unit. The same pros and cons that apply to each method of water filtration also apply here.

In brief:

  • A built in refrigerator unit is limited to only the water in your fridge.
  • An under the sink unit will only filter the water at that faucet.
  • An inline or point of entry system is broad but it may not be thorough.

To read a more in depth discussion of the pros and cons of each of these systems, you can read more about these types of water filtration systems.

Water filtering for your RV comes with a special set of considerations as does a system for your boat or yacht.
