*The truth about manufacturers and brands is that they are very different concepts. In actual fact, there are only three major companies that manufacture appliances (water filters, etc.) in the United States. These are Whirlpool, Maytag and GE.

KitchenAid, Roper and Estate are made by Whirlpool (as is Whirlpool, of course).
Amana and Jenn-Air are made by Maytag.
General Electric makes their own GE brand as well as products under the brand names Hotpoint, GE Profile and GE Monogram.

It is still true, though, that there can be significant differences in quality, features and overall value between brands. Each of these manufacturers justifies the use of different brand names as a way of applying their knowledge of the water filter industry while appealing to different segments of the market with different needs and values.
